Today, we face a challenge that threatens our ability to deliver safe, efficient, and coordinated care. Our computer systems and hardware are dangerously outdated, unable to run the modern software required to securely share electronic health records. This prevents us from connecting with Sentara and Riverside hospitals through EPIC, a system that is now essential for continuity of care. The urgency of this need was underscored by unforeseen circumstances which forced us offline and confirmed how vulnerable our systems are. Consultants have outlined a $150,000+ plan to upgrade our technology infrastructure—an investment we must make to ensure data security, protect patient privacy, and strengthen care delivery.
